Skydrol 500B-4 is a phosphate-ester, fire-resistant aviation hydraulic fluid used as the OEM hydraulic medium in many commercial aircraft systems. It is a purple, factory-grade fluid formulated to resist thermal breakdown, provide stable viscosity across a wide temperature range, and protect hydraulic components from erosion while giving reliable performance in pumps, actuators, and control servos.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

SKYDROL 500B-4

  • Fire-resistant phosphate-ester base: Provides improved fire safety compared with mineral oils used historically in aircraft hydraulics.

  • Wide operating temperature range: Remains fluid at very low temperatures and performs at elevated temperatures encountered in service.

  • Proven service history: Long track record in commercial aviation for reliability and system compatibility when used with approved materials.

  • Good anti-erosion and additive package: Contains additives to reduce erosion in pumps and valves and to control acidity. 


  • Supplies hydraulic power to landing-gear systems and related actuators during normal operation and retraction/extension cycles.

  • Used in hydraulic reservoirs, pumps, and filter housings on nacelle and wing systems during shop overhaul and system servicing.

  • Fills and conditions utility and non-pressurised hydraulic systems on ground-support test stands and benches for diagnostics.

  • Serves as the working fluid in brake-actuation sub-systems where the OEM design calls for a phosphate-ester fluid.

No, use only where the IPC/AMM or engineering data lists Skydrol 500B-4. Systems and components must be compatible with phosphate-ester fluids. 

  • Is Skydrol corrosive to materials or paints?

Skydrol can soften or attack some paints, coatings, and certain elastomers if they are not Skydrol-resistant; always follow the OEM material compatibility list and clean spills promptly.
